Mrs. Aich studied chemical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe and, after working in industry, worked in the occupational health and safety administration in Hessen, where she was also responsible for the support of accident systems since 1982. Within the occupational safety administration, she was head of an occupational safety department within the Darmstadt regional council until her retirement in July 2020.
In addition, she was a member of the state authorities in the Committee for Operational Safety (ABS), where she chaired ABS UA 1 from 2007 to 2019. She was also a member of the Committee for Hazardous Substances (AGS) and a member of various working groups on the subject of explosion protection. One focus of her work was tasks in connection with the supervision of placing explosion protection products on the market. In particular, she worked for the Federal Council from 2006 to 2022 as Commissioner for Directive 2014/34/EU. As a representative of the Federal Council, she was also a member of the ATEX Expert Group of the EU Commission and of the group for European administrative cooperation of the European market surveillance ATEX AdCO. She was also active in various national and international standardization committees and at IECEx. Mrs. Aich continues to be involved in training and further education in the Association of German Trade Inspectors (VdGAB).
